The Loft by DB

About

A studio for software that is meant to last.

The Loft by DB is an IT company working across software engineering, web development, cloud systems and product design. The name reflects how we like to work: an open, well-lit space where structure is visible and nothing is hidden behind decoration.

01 — Philosophy

Function first, then form.

We believe good software resembles good architecture. It starts with an understanding of how a space will be used, respects its constraints and is built from materials that age well.

For us, that means understanding the business problem before writing code, choosing proven technology over fashion, and designing systems that the people who inherit them can understand.

02 — Collaboration

Working side by side.

We treat every engagement as a partnership. You will know what is being built, why, and what comes next. We share work early, welcome questions, and prefer a frank conversation about trade-offs to an optimistic promise.

03 — Engineering principles

Six rules we build by.

  1. 01

    Simple before clever

The most straightforward solution that meets the need is usually the easiest to maintain.

  2. 02

    Explicit structure

Clear module boundaries, naming and data models make a system understandable.

  3. 03

    Tests as a safety net

Automated tests protect important behaviour and make future change less risky.

  4. 04

    Documented decisions

Recording why a choice was made is as useful as recording what was built.

  5. 05

    Security by default

Access, data handling and dependencies are considered throughout development.

  6. 06

    Accessible to everyone

Interfaces are built to work with keyboards, screen readers and varied devices.

04 — Commitment

Maintainable by design.

A product launch is a beginning, not an end. We build with the expectation that requirements will change, that new people will join the project, and that the software will need care for years. Readable code, sensible dependencies, clear documentation and the option of ongoing support are part of how we deliver every project.
